Florida Softshell Turtle (Trionyx ferox)

All Softshell turtles have soft leathery skin rathwer than a horny shell. They have tubular snouts and strong paddle-like webbed feet. It eats crayfish, frogs, fish as well as aquatic plants.

I was lucky to see this turtle surface whilst walking around the Anhinga Trail in the Everglades National Park, Florida. It was a large turtle, well over 30cm long, so is a female.
