Eastern Diamond-back Rattlesnake (Crotalus adamanteus)

This is the largest and most dangerous Rattlesnake in North America. Its venom is highly destructive to blood tissue and it eats rabbits, squirrels or birds. It is found in the south-eastern corner of the USA, particularly in dry scub and woodland areas.

This snake was sheltering from the sun under a bush in Wekiva State Park, Florida. The two pale diagonal stripes across the side of its head are identification clues.
