Brown anole (Anolis sagrei)

One of the commonest lizards in Florida but actually an introduced species. It is native to Cuba, Jamaica and the Bahamas. Often seen on trees, fences, walls and rocks where it stays close to the ground - usually head facing down ready to dash for cover. It has an extensible red-orange throat fan which is used to signal to other Anoles that the territory is taken.

These Anoles are commonly seen on the trail boardwalks around Everglades National Park, Florida. The red throat fan is just visible, though not fully projected.
