As
the name suggests, Turnstones flip over stones and shells
in seach of food. They are found on both North American
coasts. The compact shape and short, orange legs helps to
identify this species.
I wouldn't have expected to see a Turnstone in a bird bath,
so this sighting at John Pennekamp State Park on Key Largo,
Florida, was a surprise! This is a male bird with much brighter
plumage than the female.

This
is a female and clearly has duller plumage than the male above.
