House Sparrow (Passer domesticus)

A familiar British bird, though much reduced in numbers in recent years. The reason for the decline is not fully understood, but thought to be due to a shortage of winter food. As its name suggests, it is found in close proximity to humans, often breeding in houses under roof tiles, air ducts, etc.

An adult male with its grey cap, black bib and broad white wing-bar. Grenada, Spain.
