Goldeneye (Bucephala clangula)

In the UK this is mainly a winter migrant from its breeding area in northern Europe. It is usually seen on lakes and reservoirs, where it dives for food. In Spring, the males can be seen throwing back their heads in courtship display.

In good light, it easy to see how this duck got its name. This is a male, with a white body and green head. Rutland Water, Rutland, UK
