Crow (Carrion) (Corvus corone)

A familiar and common bird. It is all black, including the beak (Rooks have white/grey at the base of their beaks). It has a very varied diet and will eat just about anything. As the name suggests it commonly scavenges carrion, but will take eggs and nestlings, insects and even fish and shellfish from the seashore. Unlike the Rook which nests communally, Crows usually nest alone at the top of trees.

Another way of distinguishing Crows and Rooks is to look at the feathers on their legs: Crows have 'tight trousers' whereas Rooks have 'baggy trousers'! Waring, West Sussex, UK.
