Common Grackle (Quiscalus quiscula)

A common and gregarious bird, found in parks, fields, marshes, and suburbs. In good light, the males have glossy purple sheen around their head and neck. Females are smaller and duller. They have catholic tastes and are will scavenge for left-over food around bins.


This male was using the top of a rubbish bin to display, puffing out his feathers and calling loudly. Everglades City, Florida.
