Mudskipper

Mudskippers are amphibious fish, adapted to lead much of their lives out of water. They can breathe through their skins and by holding water in their gill chambers they can also use their gills to gather oxygen. In when submerged in burrows, they trap a pocket of air so they can 'breathe' if the oxygen level of the water becomes too low. They feed on small crabs and other invertebrates which they catch on the mud. This species is probably Periophthalmus, the most common with 17 identified species.
