Koala - Phascolarctos cinereus

The Koala is a marsupial, native to Australia. It is found along the eastern and southern coastal region and extends inland where there is suitable habitat. It is not a bear - as misnamed by early settlers. It eats only eucalypt leaves, which contain so little nutrition it has to conserve energy by sleeping approximately 20 hours each day. It has a very small and strangely shaped brain.

Not a great picture - but it was just a dot high up in the canopy! Daisy Hill, Queensland, Australia
