Satin Bowerbird - Ptilonorhynchus violaceus

Found in rainforest mainly in south Queensland and north Victoria. The male is dark blue to black whereas the female is green with brown wings and a spotted front. Both have striking violet eyes. The male builds a bower comprising two walls of twigs with an avenue between, this is decorated with leaves, fruits and shiny objects, particularly coloured blue. String, bottle caps and pens are often collected if available. The male dances in his bower to attract females, though mating occurs in a nearby tree. Though complex structures, the male can construct a bower in a relatively short space of time if the materials are at hand.
