This is one of the most colourful and noisiest birds in Australia. It is common along the eastern coastal area and also found in Indonesia, Papua New Guinea and several pacific island chains as numerous sub-species. It lives in large flocks, emitting very loud calls as they fly and feed. Surprisingly for such a colourful bird, even large flockes seem to disappear when they land in the high canopy. The feed on mainly nectar and pollen but will also eat fruit and seeds.
