This species is native to Australia and New Guinea. They are found throughout most of Australia though their range is reducing due to competition from the introduced Spotted Turtle Dove. They feed on the ground, mainly in pairs or small groups, and can be found in parks and gardens of urban areas as well as srubland and light woodland.
